Fun for all family ages, explore and create in the Woodlake woods and trails at Tom Sawyer's Island Playground.
This quaint playground is a hidden gem! In the woods of Woodlake in Midlothian, VA, imagination and creativity will take off with all the natural beauty surrounding the playground. Mornings and afternoons are super fun here for kids to get into character, play, and even walk along the trails. It’s a beautiful place to walk with a winding path through beautifully large, healthy trees along the Swift Creek Reservoir. We saw ducks and other water life as well as squirrels and birds galore. At the end of our adventure, we came across a stately tree with fallen branches. So, of course, we made a fort! The kids continued to play and imagine as they became pirates through the woods, by the stream, and with all the fallen branches on their ship.
Tom Sawyer's Island Playground is great to take your kids for some morning or afternoon fun. It’s a great place for all ages in the family. There are nice paved walking/biking trails to get to the playground and great for walks around the lake. The paved trails are accommodating for strollers as well as the elderly with even ground to walk on. Those more adventurous can veer off course on the natural ground. This playground can get very busy in the afternoon on weekends.
This area can get buggy and wet. Bring bug spray, water shoes, and a change of clothes for the littles in case they get in the stream. Mine tend to need a change of clothes after they realize the consequences of jumping in puddles and streams.
Parking is a little challenging to find so we just went by the map. We were directed into a subdivision (by Willow Glen) without marked parking. However, there’s a walking path in between two houses in view of the playground so we parked on the subdivision street and walked about 100 feet to the playground. We could see it from our car. For an actual address near a parking lot 14710 Village Square Place, Midlothian, VA 23112 would be the best destination. You could also park by the fitness center at the front of Woodlake or in shelter cove by the boat docks and walk to the playground. It’s visible from all these areas.
