Wapato Park is the perfect place for familes to walk and play – bring along your dog!
Wapato park is our favorite local park! There are two entrances and plenty of parking that only get crowed on a nice summer day. The lot off Sheridan will allow you to park in front of the playground structure. The lot off of 72 takes you to the .9-mile paved walking path round the lake. There is also a bus stop off 72nd and Alaska in the NE corner of the park. The walking path is well maintained and is great for stroller and bikes. Bathrooms are located near each parking lot. The paved path also takes you by two fishing docks. The lake is stocked every spring with trout. Anglers must be 15 years old or younger to fish at Wapato Lake. No fishing license required. Fish may be taken home, they do not require catch and release. Motorized boats are not allowed but there is a canoe/ kayak lauch – although I have never actually seen a water craft on the lake.
It is not permitted to swim in the lake or feed the animals. You will see may different types of ducks, including American coots on the water as you walk. You will also see many dogs as you walk, as the park also has a fenced dog park in the NW corner. The dog park provides a beautiful PNW forested area for dogs to play and run – there is a large and small dog area. Benches are located inside the dog park and our son loves to sit and watch all the dogs play.
The playground structure is good for 2 to 5 years olds. There is a smaller structure for little kids and a larger one with a great twisty slide! The playground area is covered in bark and also has a little beach area to watch the birds on the lake. Next to the playground are 2 larger picnic shelters that are available for rent and great place to eat lunch on a rainy day.
We always see park staff out maintaining this park and it is beautifully clean!
We love stopping at the Spotted Cow Coffee Cart on the way to park to grab a drink and small treat!
