This park has it all with a playground, splash pad, ball fields, and nature trails.
Located just outside Memphis in Collierville, this park is a great place to come. Inside the park, there is the Peterson Lake Nature Center. There are several trails, which are a part of the Collierville Greenbelt system. We took the Boardwalk trail, a 1.29-mile out-and-back trail through the wetlands to the Wolf River. This trail and the others are jogging stroller-friendly. This is a great hike to do with little ones before going to the park. During the warmer months, I would bring bug spray considering this is a wetlands area.
The playground area had two play structures. The first playground has sand for the base. The play structure has several slides, steps, climbing, and interactive play stations. Bring sand toys to play with and don't forget to shake out clothing before getting into the car. If your kids are anything like mine they generally have sand everywhere. The other playground had poured-in rubber per ADA guidelines. This play structure has ramps, steps, slides, climbing, and interactive play stations. There is a big pretend fire engineer drive, musical play, and climbing tubes, that are just some of the fun on this playground. Both playgrounds had shade coverings, which is great for hot summer days.
In the warmer months you can enjoy the splash pad and cool off. Pack the sunscreen as the splash pad is not shaded. There are however covered picnic areas within the fenced splash pad area. For residents of the city, it is free. For non-residents, it is $10 a person.
The W.C Johnson Park is a great way to spend the day outside with the family. Check it out for your next family adventure. After head into the Collierville for some local eats and treats.
