A neighborhood favorite, Winnemac Park is a perfect way to spend an afternoon outside.

Nestled in the middle of the Lincoln Square Neighborhood, Winnemac Park offers space for nature lovers, sports lovers, playground players, and those just looking for wide-open spaces to meet up with friends.

Follow the trails of long grasses to escape city life and feel as though you have been dropped in a lush nature field.  In the spring and summer, the trail blooms with flowers, attracting butterflies and other small animals.  As winter approaches, the grass becomes love shades of brown that compliment the fall colors or winter sky.  Bring chairs, blankets, and a snack to enjoy under one of the large weeping willows or oak trees.

Multiple areas lend to sports play at the park. There are two baseball diamonds that host several leagues or individuals are welcome to use it when open.  On the east side of the park, the tennis courts are always ready for a friendly game. The open fields are great for frisbee, soccer, tag, or just running free.  The sidewalk paths are wide enough for bikes and scooters to share space with walkers.

The playground on the east side of the playground is completely gated.  This leaves parents to relax a bit while little ones climb, slide and hide.  There are almost always other families there.  So, making new friends is never an issue.

Here are some additional considerations. Parking is free and plentiful on the street surrounding the park.  After school and on weekends, the Amundsen High School parking lot on Damen is free and available for use as well.  Forget a snack; a trip down Damen Avenue leads to some excellent dining options!
