Trip #1: Plan a Day at Pedernales State Park

Funny fact about Austin: Despite being deep in the heart of Texas, Austin has dreams of being a beach town. Though the nearest access to the Gulf Coast is several hours away, Austin loves to treat its many waterways as beaches. Let's embrace that mindset with a visit to the Pedernales Falls State Park “Beach” (a.k.a. river access and quality swimming holes). Make it the perfect day with a delicious lunch from Proof and Cooper. Drive out via the Bee Caves Road route for a take-out picnic (about 40 minutes from Austin, and another 20 to the park). Drive home via Highway 290 for scrumptious vegan treats from Skull and Cakebones. It’s the perfect mid-way stopping point between the park and home!

Trip #2: Let's Take a Road Trip Back in Time!!

Head out to Wimberley for an adventure to remember. Gather up the kids for a short road trip that’ll drop you back in time. Kinda. Approximately 50 minutes southwest of Austin, you’ll find the kitschy and kid-approved Pioneer Town. Located on the grounds of 7A Ranch in the quaint town of Wimberley, entering Pioneer Town will make you feel like Marty McFly traveling back to the wild wild west. There is so much to do there! Whether just there for a day or making an overnight out of it, you must squeeze in a visit to Blue Hole Regional Park. A beautiful place to explore with a pristine swimming hole (reservations currently required). Refuel at some point at The Salt Lick while you're out there, about twenty five minutes from Wimberley, and kick back at Vista Brewing (or at least take the ten-minute detour to pick up some supplies to take home with you!)

Trip #3: An Outdoor Adventure For the Books!

Bring the kids over the Berry Springs Park and Preserve to hike or bike the trail, or bring a fishing pole to try your luck at the freshwater fishing. After you work up an appetite, grab lunch at El Monumento, and head to Blue Hole Park just behind the restaurant for a picnic and relax and cool off in the water.
