The Bainbridge Island Museum of Art is a great way to introduce kids to art because thanks to donors and members, admission is free!
The BIMA is located right next to the Kid’s Discovery Museum (they actually share a parking lot) so it’s perfect for a joint visit to both places.
BIMA features art from the Puget Sound area. They have a permanent collection of art as well as major exhibitions that change 3 times per year. BIMA is very kid-friendly and they offer hands-on art projects for children of all ages, as well as after-school programs and summer camps. Most of BIMA’s programs are free or low-cost. The Art in Action program is drop-in and you can create your own art while you are visiting the art museum! You can join teaching artists in one of BIMA’s galleries for make-and-take art projects designed for all ages. It’s free and no registration is required.
The museum is open 10am to 5pm daily. Parking is free and the museum is an easy 5-minute walk from the ferry terminal. The museum is stroller-friendly so if you have a little one that might want not want to refrain from touching everything, a stroller might be a good idea!
The museum has a restaurant, the BIMA Bistro open 10am to 3pm. The menu features seasonal Pacific Northwest-inspired food. The kids’ menu has peanut or almond butter and jelly sandwiches and kids-sized croque-monsieurs. They also have Tuesday night take-home dinners.
While visiting Bainbridge Island be sure to visit some of our other favorites like Fort Ward Park or the KidsUp! Playground at Battle Point Park!
