Bauler Park's fun playground is a favorite in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.
This playlot is a neighborhood favorite for many reasons. Situated on a quiet residential corner in Lincoln Park, it offers a respite from nearby busier areas. It feels like an oasis surrounded by lovely historic brownstones and mature trees.
The playground is entirely fenced-in, which is a great feature considering its size. It takes up the end of one large city block. The well-maintained playset rests on a mulch surface and is surrounded by a low cement wall that kids will love using as a balance beam. There are many climbing features, including a small rock climbing wall, various types of challenging ladders, steps, and, best of all, a series of artificial boulders leading to the playset's tallest tower. Unfortunately, the boulders lack protective railings, so keep an eye on younger children climbing this feature. Once they safely reach the top, they will love their lookout perch in the tower and the steep slide they can take back down to the ground. (Be forewarned that the metal slide can get very hot in the direct sun, so check its temperature on bright summer days).
The playlot also has a row of swings, including big-kid swings, baby swings, and a mommy-and-me swing. A play kitchen near a kids' picnic table under the playset inspires imaginary restaurant play. There are benches arranged in a circle near the playset where caregivers can rest while keeping an eye on their little ones.
A pickleball court on the west side of the playground is more frequently used as a "racetrack" for ride-on toys and scooters. Several picnic tables are scattered around. There is a drinking fountain but plan accordingly because there are no restrooms nearby. Most of the playground lacks shade, so pack sunscreen, too.
This is a great stop to make while strolling around the Old Town Triangle Historic District or stopping between Oz Park and the Lincoln Park Zoo.
