Chanticleer…a pleasure garden located in Wayne.

Located within 30 minutes of Philadelphia are the sunny meadows, shaded woodlands and enchanting gardens of Chanticleer Gardens. With so many nooks and hidden surprises around each turn, Chanticleer is a delightful destination for both children and adults. There are 35 acres to explore with an easily traversed, 1-mile-long paved walking path that will accommodate strollers and personal mobility devices. Guests are welcome to explore the breathtaking grounds but be aware that due to varied topography and hilly portions, some areas may be inaccessible to personal mobility devices. (Wheelchair rentals are not available. Service animals are welcome.)

There are no vending machines, restaurants or gift shops on the premises. However, there are drinking fountains and clean, accessible restrooms available. Pack a picnic lunch with a blanket and find a shady spot to settle down. Or plan to eat lunch at one of the many picnic tables inside the glass greenhouse on the grounds. Let the kids explore; play hide-and-go-seek behind giant tree trunks; observe birds and butterflies enjoying the flowers/trees and the giant koi swimming in the lily-pad-laden pond then relax in the shade of a giant-canopied tree. There is an adorable little spring house along the elevated walking path that the kids will enjoy. If you are going solo or looking for tranquility, pack a good book and curl up on one of the many chairs/benches randomly scattered throughout the grounds.

Photo opportunities abound at Chanticleer so be sure to pack your camera! Some of my favorite spots include the beautifully adorned Sun Porch, the Tennis Court Gardens and the Pond Arbor near the Pond Garden.

Parking is very limited. Timed parking reservations are required for Saturdays and Sundays which tend to be busier days. Parking reservations are not required Wednesday through Friday. House and garden tours are available Friday and Saturday at 11 AM. Garden highlights tours are available Wednesday and Saturday at 2 PM. Chanticleer is generally open through October and reopens for the season in late March.

Before heading to Chanticleer, pick up sandwiches from Smashburger in St. David's Square or Wawa on Lancaster Avenue or enjoy lunch or dinner afterward at nearby family-friendly Christophers, A Neighborhood Place at 108 Wayne Avenue, Wayne, PA 19047.
