Dirksen Nature Park and Playground offer two beautiful playgrounds, hiking trails, a sports field, and a restroom on the Fanno Creek Trail!
When you stumble upon Dirksen Nature Park, at first glance, it looks like any other cute nature park. There is a playground with huge tree logs, cute carved tree stumps, and a hill of rocks. But behind the park is a living willow tunnel, a rock cave, another smaller nature play area, flush restrooms, a picnic shelter, and tons of trails!
The trails weave in and out of mature forested areas. There is a beautiful deck with a wildlife viewpoint in the forest as well. Before you get to the forested area, outdoor gym equipment is sprinkled along the trail. There are also the wetlands of Summer Creek, a tributary of Fanno Creek that flows through the park's south side. There are about half a mile of trails and it is not paved so it is not recommended for strollers and it can get muddy or icy.
The baseball field is sometimes in use but there is still room to explore or have a picnic on the grass surrounding the field. The playground can get busy on sunny days and weekends so it may be difficult to social distance at times. There is a covered picnic shelter with tons of tables, perfect for snacks or picnics!
