This Hike on the East Side of Lake Tahoe Will Leave You Breathless with Its Overlook to the Lake.
Eagle Rock trail is in east Lake Tahoe, south of Tahoe City and less than 10 minutes from Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park.
The trail is less than a mile long (0.7 miles) and easy to follow. This all-levels hike only has a 250 feet elevation gain as you climb the first half of the hike to the scenic overlook area. The short hike pays off with gorgeous views of Lake Tahoe that all ages will love too!
A majority of the trail is all dirt until you approach the top, where it is rocky, and there is no signage to point you to the trail. Watch your footing at this part because some of the rocks are jagged.
Along the trail, you can find logs to stop, sit, and rest as you hike. There is almost no shade at the top of the trail, so hats, sunscreen, and water are especially helpful in the hotter summer months. Make sure to snap some photos at the top!
Parking is free and easy to find in the dirt lot just off State Route 89. The lot is not large and can fill quickly during busy times. This trail is heavily trafficked during the summer and on the weekends. Plan to start early to beat the crowds or wait until later in the afternoon to miss the crowds.
There are no picnic tables or restrooms at the trailhead, so plan accordingly for your trip!
Overall this trail is low effort and a short distance and well worth your time when near Lake Tahoe.
