Pick your Emerald Bay State Park adventure from exploring abandoned buildings and relaxing on the beach, to scuba diving and visiting a Scandinavian home!
Eagle Point Campground is situated on a ridge of land between Emerald Bay, Cascade Lake and Lake Tahoe. While there is access to Emerald Bay by foot from the campsite, the hike can be tricky for younger children so I recommend thinking of the campsite as a home base for adventures that are accessed by car. The campsite itself is a great place to spend some time, the facilities are well maintained, there are warm showers and flushing toilets and campsites are generously sized. Our favorite campsite is #77, you just can’t beat the bright blue hues of Emerald Bay shining through the trees!
The campground is located close to Baldwin Beach, and your day use pass from your campsite can be used for your day use parking at the beach. There are public restrooms available and the beach is one of the larger ones, so there’s more room to spread out.
On the other side of the campground, at Emerald Bay, you can visit Vikingsholm, a great example of Scandinavian Architecture. Fannette Island at the center of Emerald Bay is a fun place to explore, the “tea house” at the top of the granite rocks was built at the same time as Vikingsholm, but has been vandalized in recent years, though the stone walls still remain. If your family is interested in scuba diving, there is the Maritime Heritage Underwater Trail, showcasing historic features, like wooden boats and a barge, at several sites. Guided kayaking tours of Emerald Bay can also provide a unique perspective of this beautiful glacier-formed granite paradise.
