Petting Zoo and Farm Fun at Flamig Farm!

You’ll know you’ve come to the right place when you see the large, red and white backward egg sign. Apparently the sign circumvents an old zoning sign that prohibited advertising. Enough about zoning though! Let’s get down to the farm business!

You will likely be greeted by some friendly hens as you make your way to the petting zoo. If you stay at the farm (one of the apartments can be rented through AirBNB) you might end up collecting their eggs as part of your farm chores next morning.

There are tons of cute animals to see in the petting zoo. When we were there, we met and fed pigs and their piglets, alpacas, goats, bunnies, donkeys, sheep, lambs, cows, emus, geese and ducks, peacocks, llamas, ponies and horses. Phew! Grain feed is available for purchase.

After feeding the animals, you can stop off at the playground for climbing fun! There's a large wooden ship and a small playhouse with a slide and swings.

Lucky for us, when we were visiting, there were baby chicks and a litter of kittens keeping warm in the farm store. We were able to hold and snuggle both! In addition to cute animals, the store also has Egg shirts for sale, as well as farm fresh eggs (if you get there before they sell out!) and snacks.

There are a number of shaded picnic tables if you want to have a snack or lunch. Or you can walk the mile or so across trails to homemade ice cream at Tulmeadow Farm Store.

Flamig Farm also offers pony rides on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

In addition, the farm hosts seasonal events, an Earth Day celebration, a summer camp, a toddler program and birthday parties. You can also do a farm stay in their cozy and cute apartment.

I live in Bethesda, MD with my husband, son and daughter. I grew up in the area and moved back a few years ago after spending almost 20 years away--mostly in NYC where I started my career in book publishing, obtained my MS in Library & Information Science, worked for a legal nonprofit, and had my son! I'm now a Research Librarian at an area university. I love exploring everything the area has to offer with my kids. Pre-Covid, we enjoyed taking the Metro downtown and going to museums, especially the dinosaur exhibit at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. These days, we spend a lot of time exploring all the nearby outdoor adventures--one of our favorite spots is Black Hills Regional Park!
