Park and playground combination in Brooklyn with historical significance and many things to do!

I hope you’re ready to learn something new because the history behind this park and playground is almost as exciting as the fun things to do there! Way back in 1776 American Major General Nathanael Greene supervised the construction of Fort Putnam, whose leftover land is still included in the upper part of Fort Greene Park. When the opposing army retreated later in the American Revolution, this park was named after General Greene. Ever since then, the park has been redone and improved multiple times, but still holds this historical significance. There are many trees and statues throughout the park that are named after generals during the American Revolution. The playground itself is also an homage to the American Revolution. The structures take after what the fort was like during the war, looking like fortresses and including weather vanes with bald eagles and the year “1776” on top.

The park has a large green area for picnics and a path for biking, walking, or scootering. The playground itself is very large and has so much space on the climbing structures and slides for a fun-filled day. This playground also has a splash pad to cool off on hot summer days, separate sections for all different age groups, swings, and bathrooms. The park is dog-friendly and has barbecuing areas as well as basketball courts. From walking around the paths to reenacting the American Revolution, and then finishing up the day with a picnic on the green, this park and playground combination is perfect for an active day with the family.
