If you're looking to cool off in the summer, the Francis Outdoor Pool in Georgetown is a great spot! Plus, it's free!
Anyone living in DC who's never been to one of the city's public pools is seriously missing out on free fun! Like most of Washington's pools, Francis isn't fancy, but it's a great place to spend a summer afternoon with yourself, kids, friends or family outdoors.
The large pool deck has numerous lounge chairs, but on a busy day, they are often occupied. There are a few umbrellas for shade, but the pool and deck are mostly in full sun.
Adults with young children will enjoy the separate kiddie pool with a maximum depth of three feet, while the adult pool has two 25 yard lap lanes and a chair lift for those who need assistance accessing the pool.
Lap Swim is Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8am to 10am, and is closed on Tuesdays.
Note: Each of DC's public pools closes one day during the week for cleaning purposes; Francis is closed on Tuesdays.
If your tribe gets hungry, Francis Pool is within walking distance to restaurants in both Dupont Circle and Georgetown. Baked & Wired is just over a ten-minute walk if you're craving a sweet treat. Sweetgreen on M Street is just a seven-minute walk in the other direction, or grab tacos at Surfside near Dupont Circle.
Additionally, for some playtime before or after Rose Park Recreation Center Playground is just ten minutes on foot.
The nearest metro is Foggy Bottom-GWU (Blue/Orange) or Dupont Circle (Red). There is also street parking available.
You must have a valid, government issued ID that proves you are a DC Resident to enter the facility.
