Glencarlyn Park in Arlington, Virginia is a Hidden Gem of a Playground with Hiking Access and an adjacent Nature Center!
This playground is in a beautiful setting, making it relaxing for adults while being fun for kids, especiallyif you have younger ones! There is a small, tree house-themed slide and climbing structure, see-saws, some swings, a sandbox, and spinners. It's not very big, but the stream running nearby offers a great additional play option, so bring appropriate footwear for the season. Be aware that the playground isn't enclosed, so with the stream nearby it's worth mentioning in case you have little runners.
There are hiking trails right off the park through the woods. Additionally, you will find a paved bike trail that you can access near the playground, so bring your bikes or scooters (there is also a learning loop for new cyclists at the Park). If you want to take a walk prior to your arrival at the playground, park at the Long Branch Nature Center and walk over. The nature center is adjacent to Glencarlyn Park and is a great option to visit after a roundtrip stroll to and from the playground.
There's an off-leash dog park nearby, so if your children aren't comfortable around dogs, keep that in mind! You will likely see a lot of furry friends.
You will also find convenient bathrooms and water fountains at the parking lot.
If you're hungry after enjoying the park, Pupatella Pizza and Lost Dog Cafe are both a quick drive away and offer great options for people of all ages!
