Griffin Oaks Park is an eight-acre green space adjacent to Tyson Recreation Center, in Hillsboro.
There are lots of facilities you can enjoy with your family such as a baseball and softball field, a basketball and soccer court, a cricket batting cage, a picnic shelter with four tables, and benches and trash cans everywhere. Also, there are good paved paths for strolling walks where kids can ride bicycles and scooters as well. It’s a dog-friendly park and a Dog Waste Station with bags is available close to the NE 17th Avenue entrance.
The playground area has two different spaces appropriated for kids of different ages. The first one, close to the Tyson Recreation Center building, is better for toddlers. It has two baby swings and a large structure with climbers, slides, a tunnel, and a bridge. The second play area, good for kids between 5 and 12 years old, has four swings and a large structure with climbers, slides, a bridge, monkey bars, and more. None of them are shaded, so bring a hat, sunscreen, and a bottle of water (water fountains are available, but not currently working). Also, these two playgrounds are surrounded by a large grassy area good for active play too.
Finally, there is a portable toilet available in the parking lot located on NE 15th Avenue, and a restroom available outside Tyson Recreation Center, on the way back (from the play area) to the second and main parking lot located on NE Griffin Oaks Street.
This park is an excellent spot to spend some hours and I’m sure your kids will have so much fun!
