Harold D. Ritter Park is one of the best in-town parks with many facilities to offer.
There is a big open playground with two separate play sets for toddlers and older children. The playground is designed in a circular fashion so you can sit on one bench and see your child, a big plus! No need to walk around chasing them to keep an eye on them! In the back of the playground area there is a nice big sand area with 2 metal excavators. So come prepared with shoes and a way to keep your car sand-free! There are two infant swings and four regular swings. There is a tall three-sided rock climbing wall. The entire playground area has a soft rubberized surface, which is nice to walk on and cushion falls. There are a couple of shade coverings as well, as there is no natural shade. Bring your sunscreen on a hot summer day!
Bathrooms, a family bathroom included, are near the playground area. There are lots of benches throughout the entire park. One baseball field is located by the playground area and the other is farther away near the large pavilion. There is ample parking in all areas. The large pavilion has a couple of charcoal grills and could even be used for a big gathering.
On the other side of the playground, you will find access to the Swift Creek Greenway (a part of the Cary Greenway). You could bring bikes/scooter/walk along for a while after playing. You could easily spend an entire morning at Ritter Park exploring.
