Herb Pennock Park is a nice playground and park for kids to run around, climb and slide.
A historic park in the Kennett Square community, Herb Pennock is the hub for baseball games from the spring to the fall. The playground is a geared toward older kids 5-12 so it's not ideal for little toddlers unless they have a big buddy to help them. There are climbing areas, monkey bars, a twisty slide and triple slides next to eachother, which are so much fun for racing or setting up an obstacle course. There is a lot to climb, but no swings at this park.
It’s not far from the parking lot, but there is a small wooden fence and some grassy areas surrounding the playground. There are also a few shaded benches and picnic tables.
My kids refer to this as the baseball playground. There is almost always a game going on which is added entertainment if you like baseball and also a bonus because they usually have their concession stand open to get some refreshing snacks, which the kids always love. And don’t mind that because it adds excitement for the kids and I feel good about supporting a local team so it’s a win-win.
Another plus of having games going on is that the indoor restrooms are open and they have always been surprisingly clean. But there are a few port-a-potties if it’s locked so you’re not stuck if you need a bathroom stop.
This is also a nice place to get some exercise. A 1/4 mile compacted stone dust trail goes around the park and connects easily to the Parrish Trail, just across the street from the park if you’re motivated for a longer hike.
