Kalorama Park Playground in Northwest, Washington has Fun, Unique Features for Kids!
There are two fenced playgrounds at the Kalorama Recreation Center. One is for smaller children and the other is more suitable for ages 4 and up. The little kids' playground has bucket swings, a slide, climbing structure, sandbox, seesaw, and an imaginative play truck feature. This side gets decent shade as it sits in the shadow of an apartment building and a line of trees which is a great bonus.
The big kids' side has swings, a rope climbing structure, a sandbox, and spinning elements. It also boasts a unique, wide rubber slide that the kids really seem to love. This playground enjoys less shade and can get quite hot but fortunately, there are other areas to take a break from the sun.
There is also a large flat field and basketball courts, as well as a community garden to check out with curious little gardeners. The playground is an excellent choice for kids that love to scooter so bring along the scooters as well as any park toys your kids enjoy. The recreation center has bathrooms that are available during the center's open hours.
If you're hungry, head to Tryst on 18th Street or Jumbo Slice Pizza which are both a short walk from the park. If you just want a coffee, there's a Starbucks at the corner of 18th and Columbia. The Kalorama playground isn't big, but it's always fun for a variety of ages. If you want to attach another playground experience to your outing, the playground at Marie Reed Learning Center is fantastic and only about a five-minute walk, though it is not available while the adjacent elementary school is in session.
