The Kids Discovery Museum on Bainbridge Island, also known as KiDiMu, is a great children’s museum with lots of hands-on activities and exhibits for kids ages 6 months to 8 years.

This museum is the perfect size for tots and early elementary-aged kids. It’s a small space but filled with a lot of different things for littles. Crowd favorites like a grocery store, bank, and indoor treehouse remain static (there’s also a small outdoor space), but the STEM-focused learning spaces change regularly.

KiDiMu is located just off of Winslow Way, just half a block away from the terminal. The space shares a parking lot with the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (which has free admission, so it’s a risk-free way to introduce kids to art).

The museum has fun events like a sock skating rink this past winter and an Art Walk on the first Friday of each month from 5 pm to 7 pm. You can also purchase an Explore Bainbridge kit for $20 through the museum. The activity book is full of activities all within walking distance from KiDiMu and the ferry! Children will receive an activity book with guided instructions and directions to take them and their families to different walkable locations in Winslow to practice important early learning skills. It’s a great way to find fun kid-friendly things to do around Bainbridge.

KiDiMu is open Monday and Friday 1 pm to 5 pm and Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm.

Food and drink are not allowed in the museum, but be sure to check out Moritani Preserve after you visit KiDiMu, the perfect place for a picnic under the cherry blossoms!

I am a Massachusetts native who grew up in the suburbs of Boston and on Cape Cod. As a military spouse I have lived all over the country from Florida to California, and several places in between. My family has now settled in Virginia where I am a stay-at-home mom to two awesome girls. I love to explore and hike National and State Parks, and spend tons of time at the beach with my kids, splashing in the waves in the summer and searching for shells and seaglass in the winter. I also love running, yoga and cooking!
