Lone Elk Park is a St. Louis County Park where visitors can drive through a large loop with the opportunity to view elk, bison, deer, and turkey.

The park is somewhat unexpected for St. Louis but is a local favorite.  There is no fee to enter the park, although there is a donation box at the entrance to the park.  Driving through the whole park can take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours depending on what animals are visible to see and how slow the traffic is moving through the park.  The park is sectioned into two parts along the loop, the elk area and the bison area.  Within the elk area, you’ll find multiple areas with picnic tables and charcoal grills to have a picnic.  The Elk Hollow area in the back of the park is a great place to spot elk.  It's worth noting that the animals here are very much wild animals and can harm you if you approach them.  Never approach the animals and keep a safe distance.  Pets are not allowed in the park, even if they are contained in a vehicle.

Pro Tip:  While the park officially opens at 8 am, the gates open around 6:30 am or 7 am and you can sometimes spot park rangers feeding the animals.

Located near the entrance to the park is the World Bird Sanctuary, where visitors can see eagles, hawks, owls, and other rescued birds.  A small entrance fee is required for the World Bird Sanctuary.

There are many restaurants nearby in Valley Park.  I highly recommend Sugarfire Smoke House or Psghettis Pasta & Sandwiches, both located 5.5 miles away at the Valley Park exit off Highway 44.
