Long Leaf Park has a little something for everyone!

It is a large park with so many options that it is easy to spend several hours here. They have done a wonderful job of making the park inclusive for all ages and bodies, which is really important! There are several ball fields, two different basketball courts (one for younger kids and one for older kids and adults), a dog park, 6 large reservable picnic shelters, and tennis courts. The 1.55-mile walking trail is great for strollers! It weaves throughout the whole park which has lots of greenery, trees, flowers, and plenty for the littles to look at while you’re walking or running. There is a StoryWalk along the trail to read along.

The playground is quite large with a few different areas. There are swings, several different-sized slides, climbing structures, and even a zip line! The restrooms are close by which is nice too. In addition to the playground, there is a splash pad which is fun to play in during the sweltering summer days. It is not huge but the kids love it. It can get pretty crowded, but the great thing is that the park has so many other things to do, you can play at the splash pad for a bit, take a walk, have a picnic lunch, play on the playground and then revisit the splash pad!

For the older kids (13 and up), the Ninja Course/Fitness Obstacle Course is a fun challenge! There are climbing ropes, monkey bars, a Spiderwalk, an unstable bridge, an angled balance beam, and other equipment to test your skills.

Located in the heart of Wilmington, it is just a short drive from the park to any one of the amazing restaurants around. Whether you are in Wrightsville Beach or downtown at the Riverfront, it is only about a 15-minute drive from either place.
