For an adventure for all abilities head to LuBird's in Central Park, just east of Denver.

Newly opened in October 2021, this playground was designed as a space for children of all abilities to play.  The idea for the playground was conceived in 2017 by LuBird Light Foundation after the realization that the Denver Metro Area did not have a single playground created specifically with the idea of inclusivity.  The City of Aurora donated 9,000 square feet for the playground to support this effort. To ensure that the playground fulfilled the goal of being fully inclusive, the design team worked with landscape therapists, inclusive playground experts, and professionals who work in the intellectual and developmental community.

This amazing playground features two traditional swings, two inclusive chair swings, and a swing made specifically for wheelchairs. There is a trampoline and a treehouse designed specifically to be enjoyed for children in wheelchairs, spinners, a unique slide that provides a slow ending, and musical sensory equipment. The ground of the playground is a combination of turf and rubber surfacing, which helps in avoiding injuries.

The playground is right next to the Stanley Marketplace, where there are restrooms and a variety of restaurants.  Many of the restrooms are family-friendly and have changing tables. Most of the restaurants are suited for families.  

The location of this playground was specifically chosen due to its proximity to many hospitals and health clinics where children from around the country come for care.  The playground is a great place for families with children in these facilities to get a much-needed break in medical care.

Kids (and adults!) of all abilities are able to enjoy this wonderful new addition to Denver.
