With two playgrounds and a nature preserve, Maidu Regional Park is a great place to explore.
When I was growing up in East Roseville, Maidu was like a second home. I loved exploring the creeks and paths, finding crawdads and polliwogs. I am thrilled as a parent that much remains the same and we can still explore the same nature that was available almost four decades ago. There are constant efforts to expand the growing area of native oak trees within Maidu park.
Maidu Regional Park is a 152-acre park that has plenty to do within the boundary, which is a great paved jogging path around its perimeter (around 2.5 miles). There are four baseball diamonds, a skate park, a soccer arena, a basketball court, a city library, a community center, two playgrounds, nature trails, paved bike paths, grassy fields, picnic areas, and the park is host to a multitude of events like the city’s big trucks program and fun runs. The park also contains a museum dedicated to preserving and learning about the Maidu Native Americans that inhabited the land hundreds of years ago.
The main playground has an old western town theme, complete with a general store, hotel, jail, railroad station, and a train. Train tracks run through the entire playground creating a fun loop. The park is known for being great for toddlers as there aren’t any places to climb too high, so parents can relax a bit. There is even a fun maze for kids to navigate through! The park also features a toddler play structure with slide, musical interactive elements, and a sandpit. The park is also one of the few accessible playgrounds in Roseville with wheelchair access to most areas and adaptive swings. Being one of the oldest parks, there is plenty of shade from large trees throughout the park. The giant oaks along the bike path are inspiring to be around.
