Marshfield Kids at Play Park Playground is unlike any other in the area.

This playground has one of the largest structures of any we’ve found nearby. It’s more like five or six structures that are all interconnected.

When you first enter, you see a replica of the historic Winslow House, the original is actually located a few miles south. Behind it is another model, this one of a General Store. There are low doorways for children to crawl into these caverns. These quasi-tunnels continue under the entire playground structure, providing lots of hiding places.

Throughout the space you can find multiple monkey bars and beams at different heights for hanging and climbing. There’s a large manufactured rock with handholds for rock climbing that must reach at least ten feet up. There are tall slides, short slides, open slides, tunnel slides, and twisty slides. There are two sets of swings, one with baby swings and an ADA swing and another with a tire swing and big kid swings. Off to the side is a covered area with a few picnic tables, and there are benches placed along the perimeter of the playground.

There’s something about this playground that encourages my kids to engage with others in a way I don’t often see. Maybe it’s the size of the structure, or maybe it’s all the nooks and crannies where they can hunker down. Whatever the case, they always find new friends quickly and engross themselves in some kind of cooperative mission.

Not only is this playground entirely fenced in, but there are ramps everywhere and the platforms are wide, allowing for wheelchair access. It’s also wonderful for toddlers because they can easily get up and down with the older kids. There's no bathroom on site, but there's a local library right across the parking lot.

I have lived in the Boston area for well over a decade, first as a student, then as an early childhood teacher, and now as a mother of three. With my family, we enjoy trying new restaurants, going to museums, meeting friends at area playgrounds, and traveling to new countries. In the summer we spend a lot of time at the beach with family, and in the winter we love sledding and building snow forts. In my free time, I love planning trips and outings, reading, trying new foods, cooking, and traveling.
