The MK Nature Center is an added bonus to your Greenbelt stroll or trip to Kristen Armstrong Municipal Park.
The MK nature center can be accessed in multiple ways. The main entrance comes off a parking lot (with lots of parking) and you walk by the visitors center. While there, grab a map or scavenger hunt for your adventure. You can also download a “30 things to do at the MK nature center” brochure from their website. If you come in one of the other entrances, you will still have a great experience and can navigate the area in your own way. One entrance comes off the Boise Greenbelt. This would be a place to stop and take a break after a family bike ride. An additional gate entrance brings you into the area off of Kristen Armstrong Municipal Park and Playground. This is a fun place to break up your park trip. Visit the playground, grab a snack and stroll over to the nature center.
We always love our trip to the nature center. It’s a satisfying experience with a little of everything we need from an outdoor adventure. There are plenty of educational posters and plaques for the curious kids and places to climb up to see fish and wildlife. The MK nature center is really family friendly and a peaceful place even to stroll with your newborn or grandparents. The ponds have varieties of fish and other creatures. In the largest pond you can look for the large sturgeon. There are also multiple “fish eye view” windows kids can look through to get up close with the fish and crayfish.
There are plenty of other things to do besides enjoy the fish. There are gardens, logs to climb through, and stumps to jump on. There are multiple family photo opportunities. One of our favorites is the huge bird's nest! Climb in with your family and take a picture to remember your wonderful day!
