Patrick Henry Elementary School Playground in Alexandria, Virginia provides fun for all ages!
If you love slides, this colorful playground is for you. This playground has a variety of fun slides kids will love! There is a long straight slide, a twisty slide and three slides in a row, among others. There are three towers of different heights with ramps connecting them. It also has some interesting climbing options, monkey bars, a balance obstacle course type "bridge" which is popular at a lot of new playgrounds, and a unique see-saw. There is also a fun balance beam, which is fun for all ages. We love the painted map of the United States, it's a fun educational tool as I encourage the kids to find where we live, and then other states where friends or family live or ones we have visited on various family trips.
The playground surface is wood chips, so be diligent with crawling, curious babies and toddlers.
The entire area around the structures doesn't get much shade and because it is on school grounds the playground is only available to the public when school is not in session, but it's worth popping by on the weekends, any time in the summer or during after-school hours. As a result, restrooms are not available on the premises.
If it begins to rain, Scramble Indoor Play Place and Charles E. Beatley Jr. Central Library are both great places to wait out the bad weather with kids. If you want to bring lunch to the playground, Cava at Foxchase is just two minutes away and serves up great picnic lunch items!
