Pirate Ship Playground at Rockaway Beach is a beachside playground located in the heart of town.
Pirate Ship playground is enclosed, so you don’t have little ones running off or heading towards to beach. It is designed like a pirate ship (hence the name) and the perfect place to have kids use their imagination and play.
There is a set of double slides, a twisty slide, a rock wall, and other climbing features on the “ship.” They have cute features like a bell and a steering wheel that really make you feel like you are on a pirate ship.
It is located right in the parking lot of Rockaway Beach, so you have a glorious view of the water and access to shops, bathrooms, food, ice cream, and of course, the beach.
No dogs are allowed in the enclosed area, but people bring their dogs and stand outside the park while their kids play.
There are two picnic tables located in the enclosed area, so you can grab some ice cream and enjoy it while the kids play. Sand Dollar Restaurant and Lounge is also a short walking distance away and a great place to eat.
Bathrooms are public and connected to the Sand Dollar Restaurant.
Parking can be limited during busier times. We went at around 10 am, and the lot was mostly empty with a handful of cars. There were no spots left at around noon, and you had to circle to wait for someone to leave. (It took us less than 5 minutes, though, to find a spot.)
There is limited shade, so wear sunscreen or bring hats.
There is also lots of wildlife around the park as well. Crows and seagulls love the trees and circle around a lot. Be careful of bird poop. (There are some spots on the playground with bird poop on it.) There are also little ground squirrels that frolic around and are really fun to watch.
Our kiddo loved this park, and we hope yours does too!
