When the sun is out and the day is bright spend the day at Portwood Pier Plaza in Imperial Beach!
Portwood Pier Plaza in Imperial Beach is one of the best places to spend time with family while enjoying the sun at the same time. There is so much to do at Portwood Pier Plaza, upon arriving at the plaza you are welcomed by the iconic vibrant art piece, "Surfhenge," which is at the entrance to Imperial Beach Pier.
Take a walk on the beach or take a leisurely stroll on the pier either during the day or even at night. The pier has many beautiful art murals throughout as well as benches to sit and enjoy the ocean view. Tin Fish is a family-friendly restaurant and is located at the end of the pier. Tin Fish offers seafood, hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, and delicious refreshments. There is plenty of seating inside and outside as well. This spot is definitely one of my kids' favorite places to visit because they'll be munching on their chicken tenders while admiring the ocean.
Near the pier is a large grassy area perfect for picnics, a play area for kids that include spring animal riding equipment, the infamous ice cream known as Cow-A-Bunga, picnic tables, surfboard benches, and fun climbing rocks. Plan your trip accordingly because you won't want to miss out on the Farmers Market. The Farmers Market is held every Thursday afternoon right in front of the plaza.
Restrooms are located near the entrance of the pier and on the pier. Showers are also available near the entrance of the pier as well. Motorized beach wheelchairs are available. 30-minute street parking is available or park in the paid parking lot near the plaza or across the street.
Outside the plaza, there are a variety of other activities to do as a family such as visiting Bibbeys Shell Shop, The National Estuary Trail, Reama Park, Mike Hess Brewing, Pizzeria Luigi, Doggogus, Sea 180, or Dunes Park.
