Three floors of interactive play exhibits perfect for babies to elementary-aged children await at SLO's Children's Museum!
The San Luis Obispo Children’s Museum is the perfect place to spend a morning or an afternoon. We have visited many children’s museums and while some are lacking in the number of activities, we were more than impressed with the SLO Children’s Museum and didn’t want to leave at closing time. There are plenty of activities that will appeal to many different types and abilities of children.
Many different topics like community helpers, gravity, space, music and engineering are covered through playful exhibits. There are also many opportunities for climbing, drumming, jumping and getting some energy out! The first floor features a space-themed area including a remote-controlled Mars rover (so fun for us because our Uncle Josh worked on the real Mars rover!). The second floor is filled with child-sized rooms that have been converted into a post office, grocery store, doctor’s office, fire station and other community features. A building section with large foam building pieces sparked some serious creativity in my children! The third floor is mostly train-themed and has much more for the very youngest visitors to enjoy. There is also a very elaborate train table with cutouts so your child can stand in the middle of their creation, if you have a train-loving child, you may want to head straight there!
There are also a few outdoor features, both on the stairs and in the courtyard behind the museum, so be sure to check those out too!
We were impressed by the cleanliness and the number of people admitted to the museum at a time, we never felt overly crowded at any activities.
