Sand Dollar Restaurant & Lounge in Rockaway Beach is a delicious, kid-friendly, oceanfront restaurant perfect for lunch and dinner.
The restaurant is located on the beach with a beautiful view and great food. It is next to the Pirate Ship playground in Rockaway Beach and by the downtown area near all the shops.
They do not have a kids' menu, but they offer small bites that make a perfect portion for kids. We highly recommend the fish and chips and the clam chowder.
Right between the beach and the outdoor seating area, there is a grass area that kids can play in. They allow dogs as well on their outside patio. Unfortunately, this grass area has many ground squirrels that come out looking for food, so be careful of little ones.
The seating outside is picnic tables, but they provide high chairs if you ask. There is a public bathroom as well as a bathroom inside the restaurant. They open at 12:30 pm and close at 6:30 pm Thursday through Monday. When we went for lunch at 12:30 pm, there was already a line outside at 12:15 pm. Therefore, I recommend going early to get a good parking spot and a guarantee for a table. Otherwise, you may have to wait. While you wait to be seated, the kids can play at the Pirate Ship playground or on the beach.
On a sunny day in February, the weather was in the 60s, and we needed jackets to help keep us warm. However, everyone sat outside because the view was too beautiful not to look at, so it was bearable weather.
Bring some activities for kids, especially if you do not want them running off to the beach. Unfortunately, they do not have coloring or a kids' menu for kids to play with.
