Stevens Meadows is a short hike with beautiful views of the green meadows, nearby forests, and sunset.
Stevens Meadows is a short 0.6-mile loop hike in Lake Oswego. It is great for little ones that cannot hike far but still need to blow off steam in the fresh air and have time to play in nature. You can do it twice if you want. Walk clockwise along the loop, then counter-clockwise to switch things up a bit. It offers expansive views, so your kids can run a bit ahead and explore the open grassy field if they want to, and you can still see them.
Because it is so open, you will need sunscreen and a hat if it is a sunny day. Older kids sometimes use the trail for mountain biking, so be on the lookout for bikes. Dogs are not permitted at all here to protect the natural area. If you want to make the hike at Stevens Meadows a bit longer, it is adjacent to Cook's Butte, an extinct volcano that ascends 720 feet up a steep hill. It is densely forested, unlike Stevens Meadows, and dogs are allowed there instead. To access Cook's Butte from Stevens Meadows, travel up to the top of Atherton Drive and turn left onto Meadowlark Lane, which ends in a culdesac at the bottom of Cook's Butte. Adding Cook's Butte to your hike will increase your distance covered by another 1.1 miles. Personally, my young kids (ages two and four) did not do well on Cook's Butte because of the big hill, but they love Stevens Meadows. My kids love to watch the sunset here. The views are beautiful!
