Traylor Ranch features 90 beautiful acres of land where you’ll find oak trees, streams, birds, horses, and plenty of space to play and explore!
We visited Traylor Ranch on a Winter morning to celebrate the New Year. Despite the cold, we couldn’t help but find excitement at what features and treasures we would find at every turn. We even saw a longhorn bull out for a walk with its owner and a pony dressed as a unicorn! We brought our nature sketchbooks and sat for a while under a tree to draw what we saw. While some local trails have been overly muddy, the trails at Traylor Ranch were pretty dry and water had been strategically diverted from the paths.
The trails at Traylor Ranch are of varying lengths and very flat, so it’s a great place to take little ones on a hike. We found it easy to shorten our walk when we realized our legs were getting tired and everyone was getting cranky. The scenery is similar to nearby Hidden Falls, but without the parking fee and with shorter trails.
Traylor Ranch Bird Sanctuary and Nature Reserve is a unique place that was formed by the Loomis Basin Horsemen’s Association, the Traylor family and Placer County. Maintenance of the land is performed by volunteers on scheduled work days, rather than by a county, city or state entity. Parking is free at the nature reserve and the trails are well trafficked. I have heard of occasional car break ins at the parking lot, so don’t leave valuables in your car.
