Wellington Park is a quaint park and play area in the Roseway neighborhood of Portland.

Large deciduous trees provide shade on sunny days and beautiful leaf-peeping opportunities in the fall. Located in a quiet neighborhood behind an elementary school, the paved paths lead to benches and picnic tables perfect for relaxing and enjoying the view of Mount St Helens in the distance.

There is a large variety of play equipment for the kids to play on here, with a mix of new and old. This park has the classic metal merry-go-round to spin to your heart’s delight and is one of the few parks to still have a tall vintage metal slide. The newer equipment is great for the smaller kids. While there is plenty of green space to lay a picnic blanket out on, there are also a couple of picnic tables situated along the pathways. Little kids will enjoy racing their balance bikes and scooters around.

The community feels important here. You’ll often witness birthday parties, sports practices, kite flying, and frisbees being tossed back and forth. Part of the large grassy expanse has also become the unofficial neighborhood dog park. So, feel free to bring your furry friend!

Portland Parks and Recreation will sometimes host “Movie in the Park” nights here during the summer months. Everyone comes out with blankets, chairs, and snacks in tow to enjoy the show on a huge blow-up screen. Check out the Portland Parks and Recreation website for the full list of movies and park locations!

Hi there, I’m Alayna! I spent my childhood in rural Wisconsin but have moved around quite a bit since — Pennsylvania, Texas, Argentina, Washington, Oregon and now Virginia. Community and the outdoors are two things that, wherever I’ve lived, have always been important to me. I have a degree in Community, Environment, & Development from Penn State and previously worked in the non-profit sector. Currently, I’m lucky to be able to stay home with my two young daughters. Before kids, my husband and I enjoyed hiking, camping, backpacking, and travel. The latter two don’t happen quite as often anymore, but hiking and camping with the kids are two things we’re still really passionate about! I’m excited to get to share some of our favorite spots with you.
