Ashland Branch Library is a bright, spacious library providing several options for visitors!

The Ashland Branch Library offers so much for families, especially those with young children. When you arrive, you may park in the small lot beside the library, or on the street. In front of the library are sculptures dedicated to significant figures in Ashland's history. There are picnic tables along the side of the library, as well as benches in front of the library. These serve as excellent places for a picnic lunch or snack break.

Inside the library, the restrooms are to the left when you enter. There is a foldable changing table in the women's restroom. The children's section is filled with ways to explore literacy with children. I love the large binder, called "Lists for Readers". The librarians created it, and it's organized by themes, and reading levels. This is such a great way to find books for your little bibliophile! Once you've selected books to read there are two rocking chairs in the corner of this space: a small, child sized chair and an adult chair.

There's a computer ready with learning games for children as young as toddlers. My son (4) enjoyed playing letter identification and number identification games. Another way to use technology in learning is to check out one of the tablets from the library. In order to do so, you must obtain a library card, so be prepared to show proof of residence in Hanover County, if you'd like to do this.

The library offers outdoor storytimes at nearby Carter Park. These are free and open to the public - you do not need a library card to attend. After exploring the library, walk to some of downtown Ashland's other attractions: the Visitor's Center, family-friendly eateries and more!
