Asylum Lake Preserve features a trail that takes you through a grassy field, woods, and a well-worn path leading alongside Asylum Lake.

There are two entrances to the park, one on Drake and the other on Parkview. We parked on Drake, where a small parking lot sits near the road. The trailhead starts off in an open grassy field. A large map kiosk and bench are located at the trailhead. In the summer the open field is covered with wildflowers and butterflies.  Unfortunately, there are no restrooms at the trailhead so plan accordingly.

The trail leads through the grassy field and gradually descends into the woods. On several occasions, we have spotted individuals relaxing in hammocks among the tall trees. There are also large teepees that children love to climb and play within. The woods are well shaded so bring bug spray during the summer months.

One massive fallen log, on the right side of the path has landed over a large low spot, creating an enticing bridge for both children and adults to challenge their balancing skills.  The trail continues to lead along the edge of Asylum Lake with scenic views. Wildlife, geese, and swans are often spotted splashing in Asylum Lake. A late afternoon or evening hike is a beautiful time to enjoy a sunset at the preserve.

There are no restrooms located at the preserve.

Dogs are allowed at the park with a leash.
