Little kids can connect with nature at Caney Creek Preserve!
Have your kids dust off their old archaeological sand toys and get ready for a great exploration adventure at Caney Creek Preserve Playground! This playground is anything but your classic neighborhood jungle gym with slides. The play area at Caney Creek is nature themed, and much more of an adventure than just somewhere to play. One of the coolest features of this park has to be the Dinosaur Dig Area, which is a sandpit that has fossils and more to find by dusting off the top layer of sand. Bring along an old paint brush so the kids can dust off whatever secret treasures they uncover! You can also just bring along your sand toys if the kids will want to play in it as a sandpit. This is a great place for all of the imaginative kids in your life, as they can play pretend while climbing over the giant ant and log stepping stones. There is also a cool little fake rock structure that they can enter and pretend it is their house or a cave they just uncovered. Most of the play areas are definitely geared toward a younger age range, but I think up to 12 would be able to find something to enjoy doing. Something that older and younger kids can both enjoy is the giant “spider web” climbing net tower, which is super awesome! The play area is not enclosed by a fence, but it does have trees lining the perimeter of the park, which offer both shade and a bit of a nature fence.
The preserve also has picnic tables, a dog park and a great nature trail. The trail is a 1.5 mile loop, and is fairly well shaded throughout. It is a dirt path, but the natural terrain makes it so you should probably trade in the stroller for a hiking backpack. There are restrooms available at both entrances to the park.
