Enjoy shaded Carter Park playground and its sandbox, swings, slides and picnic area!

Carter Park is a great park to visit, especially on sunny days, because it is completely shaded. Parking is easy and convenient, directly in front of the playground. There are restrooms to the left of the parking lot. Also, a picnic pavilion is behind the playground, perfect for cooling down after running around the playground! There are also several picnic tables around the play area and benches around the playground equipment.

The playground has a mulch base. There are two big kid swings and one baby swing. There is a small slide, great for toddlers, and two side-by-side slides, which are a bit larger, that my four-year-old just loved! I love the infusion of education on this playground! There are numbers and letters everywhere, and even a clock with arms that move! Such a fun and easy way to introduce telling time to young children! Because Ashland is a train town, you will likely see several trains passing through the trees! My children were so excited to hear the train whistle each time!

Beside the playground is a sandbox. My son played with his dinosaur figurines here and had a great time making "footprints," burying the dinos, and using sticks to make race tracks for them. Unfortunately, there are no sand toys at the playground, so pack your own if your kiddos like to play in the sand! After playing, consider heading to downtown Ashland (you can walk about 1.5 miles, or drive 5 minutes), where you can stop by the Visitor's Center, see trains up close, and grab a yummy meal!
