Along the Willamette River, Champoeg State Park and Campground make for an easy day trip from the Portland area.

Or stay a night or two at the campground, featuring 21 hookup sites, 54 electrical sites, six tent-only sites, six yurts, and six cabins. Yurts and cabins both sleep up to five people and offer a bunk bed (double on bottom, single on top), a pull-out futon-style couch, a table, and chairs. They both have covered porches, a fire ring, and a picnic table. Remember to bring your own sleeping bag or bedding from home as cabins and yurts offer only beds.

Yurts and cabins are by reservation only. The A loop and yurts close seasonally, while the B loop and cabins are available year-round. Reservations can be made online up to six months in advance through the state park website.

Bathrooms are located in the center of each loop and have running water and flush toilets, with the women's bathroom also offering a baby changing station.

The park offers reservable group picnic sites in three different day use areas, including the Pioneer Memorial building, and the pavilion, which can be rented together or separately and can hold up to 200 visitors. You can make reservations by calling 800-452-5687.

There are three different group campsites (without hookups), offering spacious and shaded spots for up to 25 campers and six vehicles.

There is also a large RV group spot, with 16 paved spots, five of which do have electrical hookups. This area has its own restroom facility as well as a group fire pit, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, picnic tables, and a barbecue grill. This reservation also comes with the usage of the indoor meeting hall, which can hold up to 50 people and has electricity, water, and heat.

A few other things to note: dogs are welcome but must be on a six-foot or shorter leash at all times (unless in the off-leash dog park area), there are no drones or metal detectors allowed, and although electrical bikes are allowed on the bike path, electric scooters, mountain boards, and electric unicycles are not allowed.

While visiting I highly recommend playing at the nature playground that is located near loop A. It has a large metal slide, various things to climb, and a water spout feature with a sand pit.

Hi, I’m Emily. A stay at home mom to two young children. We love getting outside & I’m always looking for new ways to challenge ourselves to do so. Me being an avid hiker & camper before kids, it’s only felt natural to continue exploring (if but a little slower), with them in tow. Besides hiking & camping, I’m also passionate about traveling, stand up paddleboarding, working out, swimming, cooking, reading for pleasure, living a nontoxic lifestyle, needle felting, & following my heart.
