Plan a family fun day at Compo Beach!
Located in Westport right along the Long Island Sound is Compo Beach. This beach is just one of the great beaches to spend the day at in this great town. It has so much to offer, with a boardwalk, playground, sports courts and of course the beach itself. The beach is super nice and clean - I could just spend the whole day there! The water is great for swimming and there are lifeguards. Our one recommendation would be to bring water shoes to avoid problems with sharp shells or rocks. This beach can be less crowded than others because the parking fee for non-residents is more expensive than other nearby beaches. They also limit the amount of daily passes given out to 100 a day. While enjoying a beach day you should also reserve time to check out the other great activities and amenities that Compo has to offer!
The boardwalk is a great way to explore the park with your crew and get a little bit of exercise in for the day. While on your walk, you will get great views of the Long Island Sound, as well as all of the places that your kids will be begging to play at. The beach has so many cool sports activity options, with a softball field, lighted basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, and even a skate park. If none of these spark their interests, there is also a big grass field to just run around. Bring whatever sports equipment, frisbees or kites that they can play with on the fields or on the beach itself. You will also walk past their awesome playground, which is a big wooden one that has everything your kiddos could want - so many slides, climbing features, swings for all ages and abilities, and so much more! It is great for kids of all ages, with sections for each age group. It has the cutest nautical theme throughout and sand on the ground. There are benches and picnic tables built in around the perimeter of the playground, so parents will all have somewhere to sit. Once your kids have worked up an appetite playing and swimming, you can visit the snackbar to grab lunch or bring along a pre-packed picnic lunch to eat under the picnic pavilion. There is also a bathhouse, which has restrooms and outdoor showers available so you don’t have to leave sandy.
