Enjoy a family hike at the Cranberry Lake Preserve in Westchester County!
The Cranberry Lake Preserve is a 190-acre park in Westchester County, located off of Old Orchard Street. It is the perfect hiking location for the family, with 3 loop trail options and a few other trails as well. All of the trails start at the nature center and head downhill towards the lake. At the nature center, there is a nature study, which has a lot of interactive programs offered on weekends. The educational programs are each about ninety minutes long. The park is open year-round, and you get a completely different experience in each season. Your kids will love the variety of ecology to see, between the glacial lake, wetlands, trees and quarry. The quarry is the remnants of stone being excavated to build the Kensico Dam back in 2017. Kids love climbing all around this historic site, and it is overall the perfect outing for them to connect with nature.
Admission to the park is free, as well as parking. Additionally, there is a clean restroom available during the park hours of operation, which are 8 am to dusk. If you are looking for somewhere to hold an event, there are also options for outdoor birthday parties too for those that live in the area and have yet to uncover this gem.
There are no bikes allowed in the Cranberry Lake Preserve, but Graham Hills Park is a smaller park located nearby if your kids are looking for somewhere to practice biking or scootering.
