Gorgeous lake views await on this hike at Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve!
Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve has a ton of great hikes for the whole family to enjoy. The loop trail is a 2-mile hike that wraps around the upper lake of the preserve. It offers great mountain views of the park and lakes. It is an easy hike that all ages can complete. However, younger kids should stay close to their parents because there are a few roadside sections and road crossings on the trail. We also recommend trading in the stroller for a carrying backpack for any babies or toddlers that will not be walking themselves, the path becomes narrow and a little rocky at a few points. Some of the great sights that you and your kids will see are visible as you cross the dam, pass the Basalt rock beach and more great views are available at the various lookout points. The hike should only take about an hour, but if you want to extend it, you can take the Lollipop Loop Trail at the intersection.
There is also an accessible trail in Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve, which is a great choice for anyone who would need a wheelchair or stroller to enjoy nature on a beautiful trail.
The path begins right at the parking lot and offers great waterside views. There are benches and picnic tables throughout the path. This path actually connects this park to the trails found in High Mountain Park Preserve as well.
This preserve offers many activities other than hiking as well. Be sure to check out the boat rentals for a fun day kayaking, canoeing, or paddleboarding. There are also many picnicking locations, but be aware that there is a no grilling rule. There are nice clean bathrooms on the premises.
