Enjoy the Grayland Tot Lot's shaded playground with its sand surface, slides, and toys inspiring imaginative play!

The Grayland Tot Lot is only two blocks behind the popular Cary Street, a lesser-visited Richmond park.  Because it is entirely shaded, it is perfect for summer visits!  I love it for young children because it is completely fenced in, and there are always a few (second-hand) toys here that spark imaginative play for my kids.  There is a small kitchen and a little toy to ride on that my son loves to recreate into a transformer, jumbo Hot Wheel, and more!  The surface of the playground is made up entirely of sand. However, there are no sand toys available, so pack your own!

Picnic tables are situated in the shade, so you have a perfect spot for snacks or lunch.  If you wanted to have a birthday celebration or a cookout here, you could use the grills near the picnic tables.  The Little Free Library is beside the playground.  We have found many good reads in this Little Free Library and even dropped off a few of our previously loved books, too!

The tot lot is close to the interstate entrance.  There is no physical danger as the playground is fenced, but it tends to get loud, so prep your children, and if you have noise-sensitive children, pack headphones.  Another note of warning: there is no parking lot for this park.  You will go to the end of the cul-de-sac and park on the street to be closest to the park. This will also put you in front of the basketball court, so pack a ball if you want to shoot hoops!

On summer days, we leave the playground and walk up to Carytown Cupcakes.  The walk takes less than five minutes, but you will want to make sure to stay on the sidewalk and ensure your child is holding your hand.  Although their specialty is cupcakes, my children love the King of Pops popsicles they sell in the summer!  Every time we visit, they have different flavors, which is especially exciting!
