Halyburton Park is the perfect place for the entire family.

This sprawling park allows for wandering and discovery across its 60 acres. There is a handicap-accessible path that circles the perimeter of the park and several off-road hiking paths. No matter which way you decide to adventure, you will eventually return to the paved trail, so feel free to explore without the worry of getting lost! There is a wooden deck that overlooks part of the marsh, a great location for birdwatching and observing wildlife. Part of the Gary Shell Cross-City trail also runs through the park! It’s a great place to push a stroller, ride bikes, or go for a run.

There are two different play structures and a swing set with baby swings. The first is a more traditional playground with a rock wall, shaky bridge, and slides.  The other offers a slightly more challenging climbing situation!  There are covered picnic areas, a restroom, and several trash cans and recycling bins.

Make a point to go into the Nature and Events Center, if it is open, and say, “Hello” to the turtles and snakes that live there. Several programs are offered through Halyburton such as nature workshops for adults and kids, school programs, fitness classes, and special events. Check their website for class and event schedules and pricing. The snake and turtle feeding time is always a fun activity for kids! They also offer Nature Discovery Backpacks for five-day rentals, which include educational lessons, activities, and equipment to learn about living creatures, nature journaling, and ponds.
