Within walking distance from downtown Bend is 3.7 acre Harmon Park, also known by the locals as the Boat Park, and has an adorable playground (you guessed it, there's a boat!) with unique play structures and open grass space.
The playground here which is fenced off from the road, is what initially drew me to this park. That and the miniature boat that is seemingly “washed ashore”. But immediately walking up you first see a T-Rex two person spring rider, which any young child would flip over (my kids included). There’s three separate play structures, the largest being geared towards kids aged 5-12 and has two slides, two types of monkey bars, and a unique imitation rock feature that you can climb both on top of and underneath. A smaller structure geared towards 2-5 year olds, is really just a tube you climb up into, with a short tube slide. This structure gave me kind of a space theme vibe, although I’m not positive if that was the intention. Then the best part of the playground is the small miniature boat to play on. A ramp leads up onto it and then there's a small space to go below and a ladder to climb up to the upper part where a steering wheel awaits your driving skills. This is obviously a favorite among the local kids and those (like us) that were just visiting. Within the playground area there are also two baby swings, two kid swings, a stand on spinner, and a small court with a triple shoot plastic hoop.
This park is also situated along the Deschutes River and right across the water from Drake Park, making it quite scenic as well. Grassy fields are home to two softball fields, which are used as a soccer field in the fall, and an Outdoor Center, which is a small building used as a meeting place for the community outdoor programs.
Other things to note is that there are two benches and one picnic table next to the playground, as well as a drinking fountain and a bike rack. A few additional picnic tables are under the overhang of the Outdoor Center, but they are just a bit further away. There is a restroom facility at the Outdoor Center, it was locked when I was there, but there was a porta potty available. Dogs are allowed at the park, on leash only.
If looking for more to do, cross the nearby bridge over to Drake Park or take the short walk to downtown Bend.
