Horseshoe Park and lakefront has something for everyone!
This park has - you guessed it- a horseshoe-shaped lake! Not a lake person? Don't worry - there's other things to do as well.
The park and playground sit along side the water, super pretty and a nice way to mix up your standard park and playground visit. There are 3 different playground structures, allowing for a range of ages to be engaged. There are slides, bridges, poles, opportunities to climb, monkey bars, balance beams, and a number of swings (including ADA-friendly swings). The ground is bark, surrounded by grass. Many picnic tables surround with plenty of shade. There are bathrooms at the west end of the playground, near the covered pavillion.
Headed towards the freeway- you'll find the boat ramp and parking, a large green space with paved walking paths and the skate park area. Great for both skate boarding and bmx riders. This portion of the park closes at 10pm and has it's own parking lot.
If you're into boating and fising or the occasional kayak outing, this is a great spot for you! All equipment you need to bring yourself, but there are lifejackets to borrow right by the boat ramp. The lake is open to fishing year round and is stocked with rainbow trout, large mouth bass and other warm water species. It has been posted that 2022 is the start of a Trout Derby (open from April through October). After you purchace your fishing license: catch a trout, keep the tag, enter the information online and hope you're a winner!
Many families post up along the lake shore. Parts are grass, other areas are sand. The sandy shoreline is great to sit and fish as well, you don't need a boat. We saw a lot of kayakers when we were there, I'm sure SUP would be great too and of course you can swim!
Parking is mostly street parking (it's a quiet street that really only access the lake and park) or two small lots, one by the boat ramp, the other is nearest the skate park.
The lake itself was once connected to the Lewis River, but was cut off in 1940 as highway 99 was constructed. Water is pumped into the lake via culvert. The website attached to this article is just for the lake portion of the park.
