The Military Aviation Museum is home to one of the largest private collections of World War I and II-era military aircraft in the world.
As you enter the museum you will see the desk to get your tickets and the small gift shop with tons of cute toys, clothes, puzzles, and other memorabilia. The lower level has several different jeeps and World War I and II era vehicles, along with the Army and Navy Hangers. Each one houses several different, impeccably restored airplanes. They even keep Santa’s personal private plane for him here! Maybe one of the coolest things about this museum is that many of the planes have been restored and are completely flight capable! During the summer season from May 1 through October 30th, the Military Aviation Museum hosts flight demonstrations of these magnificent aircraft! It is included with your admission and starts at 1:00 pm, unless otherwise noted. Of course, this also depends on the weather. There are options to watch these planes take off outside or from the upstairs observation area.
The second floor has two balconies overlooking each Army and Navy Hanger, in order to see all of the planes from above. In addition to the other exhibits, there is a small kids' table with crayons and coloring pages and several super cool flight simulators! These were a big hit with everyone in our crew!
The WWI Hanger and Cottbus German Hangar are viewable by daily guided tours. The campus also hosts the Fighter Factory which is where all of the restoration and maintenance of the aircraft take place. Check the website for different events and programs that the museum hosts, as well as an opportunity to take your own ride in one of these aircraft! If you are local, consider becoming a member and enjoying all the perks the museum has to offer.
