With 6.2 miles of trail Pennypack Trail in Philadelphia is the perfect spot for a scenic hike.
Pennypack Trail follows the Pennypack Creek, which is absolutely beautiful when it is in your view along the trail. There is a great pebble beach at the beginning of the trail for kids to learn to skip stones or for dogs to go for a dip to cool down. There is a wide paved trail or dirt trails that you may choose to follow, hikers choice. Bikes are allowed on the trail, as well as dogs if they are on leashes. For an even further hike south of the Pennypack Preserve, the trail continues to Montgomery County’s Lorimer Park and into Rockledge Borough. You can find a trail map online.
There are several different spots that you may park to enter the trail. Lorimer Park’s at 183 Moredon Road has parking, a picnic area, and restrooms. We found ample parking at the intersection of Pennypack Path and Pine Road. That parking places you right next to the beautiful pebble beach along the creek. Right there is also known as the “unofficial dog park”. Where there is ample green open spaces for dogs to run and play. There is also a pavilion with picnic tables, and other various picnic tables and benches along the trail and green space. I suggest bringing bug spray, depending on the time of year you visit.
Whether you are in the mood for a short or a long hike, Pennypack Trail offers both options, and beautiful views of nature to add.
