Hike at Peters Canyon Lake View and East Ridge Loops!
Peters Canyon Lake View and East Ridge Loops are great hiking trails to take your family on if you are in the area. The East Ridge Loop is a 5.3-mile loop trail. It is a neighborhood residential trail that can get pretty busy in peak hours. It also gets pretty hot in the middle of the day because there is minimal shade, so it is best to go early or later in the day, especially on hot summer days. It is even recommended to avoid the summer altogether, and visit from October through June for the best experience. This trail is best suited for a family who has school-aged kids, as it is an easy to moderate difficulty. There is plenty of wildlife for the kids to spot throughout the hike. Both mountain bikers and hikers enjoy this path. There are a few bigger hills if you are looking to mountain bike, so for the inexperienced hiking is the better option. You can also cut the loop off early by taking the Scout Trail if the 5.3 miles is too long for your crew.
The Lake View trail is another great hike in Peters Canyon Regional Park. This is a 2.7-mile loop around the reservoir. Since it is shorter, it may be the better option for a family with younger kids. It has great views throughout, though the best view is optional. There is a 175-foot climb during this trail that leads to the top of the ridge, giving a great view of the entire park. Even if your crew can’t handle that climb yet, we still recommend visiting this trail. There are plenty of bikers and joggers on this trail as well.
Peters Canyon Regional Park also has an interpretive programs center and picnic benches. Enjoy a well-earned picnic after your hike. There are also restrooms available in the picnic area. Be sure to check the website for trail maps and to make sure that the trails are open because they can be closed for up to 3 days after rain.
