Sahalee Park is a community park in downtown Madras offering a large playground, splash park, covered picnic tables, and more.
My family and I stopped here on a trip out of town and it was a perfect place to stretch our legs after a long drive. The main playground structure is large and offers a variety of ways to showcase playground skills. There’s two slides on opposite sides, a round ladder between two structures to climb up, an artificial rock to climb across, and two different rock walls to climb up which were all highlights in my opinion. Plus there’s ladders to climb and things to balance on. The tallest part of this structure is shaded by a large canopy like umbrella, which I’m sure helps with both creating shade and giving a break from the rain.
If you have a younger child like I do, there’s also another smaller structure that is designed to look like a fire truck. My one year old loved climbing the (short) ladder, driving the steering wheels, and going down the slides by herself.
There’s also a swing set with two baby swings and two kid swings, plus a balance beam in the play yard. The whole playground area is fenced off from the street too, which helps create a safer atmosphere.
Nearby there’s a full-size basketball court and in the surrounding area there are many picnic tables spread out, benches to sit on, as well as four separate covered picnic areas with two picnic tables under each one.
An indoor seasonal restroom facility is onsite, but there were also two (clean) porta potties just off the playground.
Enjoy the paved path around the park or visit in summer to experience the spray park splash pad. There’s also lots of grass to play on making this truly a great stop and a great community park.
